New partner for interoperable metering system

OpenLimit SignCubes AG and Power Plus Communications AG are cooperating in the development of BSI-compliant Smart Meter Gateways . PPC’s partner, Bosch Software Innovations, is perfecting the product with its Meter Gateway Manager. The aim is to deliver interoperable solutions for the rollout of smart metering and for future smart grid applications. The results of this collaboration as well as an outlook for the next steps involved will be presented at the E-world trade fair in Essen.

At E-world , partners PPC and OpenLimit will showcase the latest versions of their Smart Meter Gateway, which is being developed and certified in accordance with the standards of the BSI Protection Profile, the Technical Directive and the FNN (Forum on Network Technology / Network Operation) Requirements Specifications.

In addition to the intelligent metering system, the challenges of the smart grid will also be taken into account in the collaboration. Years of experience in the area of data transfer for intelligent grids with PPC’s broadband power line technology and OpenLimit’s expertise in the field of security and cryptography, coupled with Bosch Software Innovations’ Connected Energy Solutions for intelligent energy management, form the basis for the development of integrated solutions.

At E-world, Bosch Software Innovations will present the Meter Gateway Manager, a solution for administration of the Smart Meter Gateway, with add-on products for intelligent rollout control and processing of meter readings.

The Meter Gateway Manager already meets many of the requirements of BSI TR-03109 for managing the future Smart Meter Gateway, and passes on meter data previously sent by an intelligent metering system in a secure manner via a communications network. This data is made available to all relevant market players while ensuring compliance with the stringent data protection requirements in place.

Together, the collaborative partners want to ensure that the new products will function within metering systems from all manufacturers. “For a long time now, we have been testing and developing in conjunction with partner businesses in order to guarantee interoperability within the entire system”, says Ingo Schönberg, CEO of Power Plus Communications AG, “and in future we intend stepping up this tried and tested cooperation so that we can offer our customers even better solutions.”
